New to window cleaning I have some equipment and technique questions

Hey all, as the title says I'm new to window cleaning and im about to purchase my first pole what is the most common / practical size for your average residential two story house. Also what's the best technique to use when doing a stand residential second story double hung window? To straight pull from top to bottom?, do you get a swivel squegee and pull down but with a little tilt?, or do you just set up a ladder and fan the window by hand lol
