Question Part time to full time transition?

How long does it take to build up a good customer base?
I am starting part time, but I want to transition to full time.

Can anyone give me an idea about the average pay as a window cleaner? (Both Full and Part time?)
I have a family of of 5 and I want to make sure I can afford to provide for them.

Thanks.

osha certification?

I've done a lot of rock climbing and repelling, but not off buildings. I've been unable to find any information about the requirements that osha may have for safety, gear, certification (if any), insurance, etc.. A big internet run around. I'm self-employed, and do punch-list repairs for a couple of large construction companies who have had inquired about my being able to repel to locations where a lift is not possible. Generally nothing taller than 10 stories. Does anyone have a contact # of who I could ask? I live in Athens, GA. If/when I can get "legal", window cleaning will be only one of the services I'll be looking into offering. Also, what rope(s)+gear would be recommended where NP1 and other sealants will be prevalent? I'm concerned about integrity and functioning of gear if exposed, and proper solvents for cleaning.

DYI RO membrane Pure Water Window Cleaning

I threw this little guy together last night with my brother because things are too busy and I'm now in need of a second wfp setup. This is because I've been getting calls for specialized wfp work. I like to keep things simple and streamlined but I'm finding myself double booking a lot lately.

If this sounds familiar to you and you don't want to spend $2k+.... You can put together something like this. All materials were under $500. I earned that back by 10am lol. I have a friend who is in the water filtration industry and he got me the 440 membrane for distributer cost of $350.

Let me know what you'd change or add to the unit....

Thanks

Those weird windows...

I think I've got a local restaurant lined up and I want to know what your guys technique is for these panes. They are those tall windows with the curved tops...kind of like sunroom windows. You see them on Wendy's or old Sizzlers. Whats the method for cleaning these and what would you charge for them?

Do you include roof sweeping part of gutter cleaning

Most of the stuff I read in the forum talks about pricing and ways to clean gutters.
my question Is do you guys sweep or blow off the roof as well or is that a separate charge. I was under the impression that if it's not in the gutter it's a different service. I had a customer refuse to pay until I swept the leaves off the roof.

New to the game...

Heres my rig:

I picked this up exploring the window washing world....

Its got a 45 gallon tank and a Honda G2500 pressure washer. Its got a wand with all sorts of tips and a reel full of hose. I'd like to add basic stuff to start off with as well as window washing.

Before I go drilling through sidewalks and marring up decks...what can I do with this thing? Whats the capability? How do I do the basics?

My pressure washing background is stripping bark from logs for log house use and for washing my cars/motorcycles.

After some use I may step up my game with it, but for now I'd like to toss in the ability to wash down a driveway or side of a house as add ons.

Rags

Hello everybody,

I use the blue surgical rags

I'm thinking of changing to different rags but I would like to ask here first.

I clean 90% commercial and 10% residential

The other day I wiped around the edges of the glass to detail the clean and the rag had a burn mark, almost like a cigarette burn. I looked at the rag funny and changed sides. I then cleaned another pane and wiped again, same thing happened. At this time I said to myself that this rag must be old and got a new one from the stack that I know are less than 2 months old (deep blue) and the same thing happened. Am I wiping too fast causing a friction/rag burn?

I was called 3 months ago to help with a contract job and the owner said I could use his rags. He used yellow, orange, and green micro cloth rags. Are these better? What rags does everyone use?

One other thing, this only happens with commercial inch thick glass :/

There's gotta be an easier way

Photo on 6-28-15 at 2.21 PM.jpg

I need help figuring out how to clean this screen porch with a railing and decorative wood work on top. There are a lot of spider webs and tree debris behind these railings between the wood and the screen, I need to know if there is an easier way to clean between and behind. Thought about the power washer but that seems like over kill. Also, this porch is about 15ft. high and ladder work is needed, sides are reachable from foot.

thanks.

Question More than 4 jet nozzles on WFP Brush

Hey everyone,

Just wondering if anyone has tried doing 4 pencil jet nozzles and 4 fan jet nozzles at the same time on their wfp brush. I have the option for that and it doesn't seem like there is enough pressure to adequately work. Fan jets don't fan. It's more like 8 sad pencil jets. Would like to hear others experiences in this.

Thanks

Question High-Rise Bidding Help

Gents,
I am proud to say that I have finally graduated from the ground floors and will be doing my first high-rise building (hopefully!). I just got insured and I am following all of the correct safety requirements by my city.

I have opened a company called Superhero Window Washing in Fayetteville, AR. We wear superhero costumes at 90% of our commercial clients and about 30% of our resi's. I have been playing with our harnesses and rapelling equipment and have been asked to give a bid on the tallest building in town, The Ball Building. I am very excited and honored to have the opportunity to clean such a staple in our community. But I am having some trouble coming up with an accurate number. There is around 750 windows and 25-30 drops. Can anyone give me some useful advice? I cannot post any links or pictures because this is my first official post to the site. Just type in "Ball building fayetteville ar" in Google and you will get the idea. Thanks guys!

Question How to clean ths?

Hey, just went out to do a quote for cleaning these four sun screen panels. They are a kind of plastic-y material that is stained with some mold.
Do you have any idea if they will clean up, and with what? Maybe screen magic? Never used it before, but am loathing to scrub with detergent and have it not come any cleaner...

Thanks in advance!20150625_145006.jpg20150625_144923.jpg20150625_144958.jpg20150625_145006.jpg20150625_144923.jpg20150625_144958.jpg

Hot skylights. Methods to cool?

Next week we have a home which has many skylights. 6 are 32 feet up and due to the placement of them they are highly visible.

We have used the unger indoor kit to clean them on the inside, but it's always a struggle as the moment the sunrises these are in the shade.

today I thought about covering them with a drop cloth on the outside before cleaning them. My hope is that it would cool the temp down on the inside.

Anyone every do something like this?
