What sort of jobs will you just say "No thanks"?

So I was reading a thread "commercial construction clean" and it got me wondering what jobs if any will you just pass on? As luck would have it, I was doing an estimate this morning that just got me laughing and thinking "this is going to really suck for someone, but not me". This house had 3rd story (on a slope) storm windows that had to be removed from the outside with a drill/screwdriver. Even the 2nd story 36 pane window had a storm..super heavy! I wasn't even quite sure how I would do this and get the storm down safely. So this is a 2 part question...1) What jobs will you turn away? 2) How would you clean these storm windows? There's no way to get a lift in there. Some sort of pulley system?

fear of going on my own

i have this fear of leaving my current job as a window cleaner to start my own window cleaning company. even though i have this fear; i have been slowly buying equipment so that i dont have any excuse for not starting. i have a stay at home wife and two kids so giving up my guaranteed pay check is very scary to me. i have read some of you guys started with $100 worth of equipment. I have almost run out of things to buy (and excuses). I have been a residential manager and now do mostly commercial work ground mid rise, high rise, ccu, caulking and minor exterior maintenance. im a good window cleaner and ok at caulking. next i just need to set up business and purchase marketing material. just look to hear people in similar situation success story to give me that last little push i need to making the final jump of quitting.
just a run down of my equipment
internal document, waivers, process and procedure for things
website is under construction
ninja handles
almost every size sorbo channel 5in-36in
ettore handles
ettore channels 8in-22in
5 section poles
sectional ladder
doodle pads
t bars
scraper
every thing needed for residential and commercial ground
polisher (i know how to polish windows)
saferestore
screen washer
2, 1 cubic ft di tanks
reach it many
2002 ram van 3500
enough equipment for 3 or 4 people

Quick wfp set up question

Wondering if there is a problem with this set up

Garden hose -> DI tank -> 3/8" hose to hose reel -> 300ft 3/8" -> WFP.

Just in the process of putting it all together and wanted to make sure I don't have too much back pressure? Should I have a 3/8" hose going into di tank rather than garden hose?

Anyone have input on mounting reel and di tank on f150? Not sure if I want it right behind rear passenger side window so I can pull up to curb and reel out or if I want to have it at end of tailgate so I can backup and drop tailgate and go.

Thanks!

I need some advise!

I have being doing business with a cleaning company for 2 1/2 years, doing windows for them. 3 months ago they got a model project that needed to be done on a daily basis. I have being doing it 7 days a week early am, the gig takes 1 hour to do and 2 for travel, 3 hours total. I get a little over 1k weekly to clean. The thing is that last month the cleaning company lost the cleaning contract but being a great window cleaner thanks in part to knowledge you learn here, they only kept me doing the windows thru them. Now the new cleaning company wants the window cleaning contract and wants me to do it for them, the advise I need is that the company I have deal with for a while requested that I don't do it, they feel the other cleaning company took their gig and they shouldn't get their window cleaner as well. I said I would decline their offer, but it bothers me a bit, it's good money but aside from that I'm in business to provide my services to whoever needs them. I also feel bad that my contact lost his chance and because his bitter I would loose the work as well. I have to admit that without him I wouldn't have gotten in the first place. Am I doing the right thing here?

Biting the hand that feeds you

Sometimes we get a call wanting windows done ASAP and you just can't, especially this time of year. So we started giving out the name of a newer outfit in the area as a possible place to get windows done because we knew they didn't have much work yet just starting out and all.

Several months later a customer we do every year calls us up asking if we are going out of business. I asked him why he would think that. Apparently after finishing a job on the customer's street, the window cleaner knocked on doors to try and drum up business. When our customer told the window cleaner he used us regularly the guy started badmouthing us. He told our customer we must be going out of bussiness because we were sending a bunch of work his way. His cleaning will last a lot longer than ours.

We called the company and told the owner what one of his guys was saying about us. We even told him what house the guy cleaned at. The owner said he didn't believe it. I guess our customer just makes up things out of the blue for giggles?

We don't give them anymore referalls.

Have you ever had another cleaner talk bad about you? It seems really unprofessional.

Mid-Rise Pressure Wash Price Advise Needed ASAP...

Okay, so I tried to make a new account on the PWRA to post this thread but it didn't work like right now so I decided to post here. I need some advise ASAP. I have a three story hotel that I cleaned windows on once and they are asking me for a price on pressure washing the whole building. I'm thinking $1700.00 plus lift rental but before I submit the bid I want to check to see what you guys would charge. Am I going too low on this?? Maybe its worth $2500.00? Or, maybe I'm WAYY totally off? Keep in mind these people are CHEAP... I never bid a pressure wash job this big so any help is much appreciated...

How important is it to have "window cleaning" in my URL?

What the title says. Basically, I've done some research into available URL's and have determined that my best available options are either "wagnerwindowcleaningbend.com" or "wagnercleaningbend.com" (Bend is the name of the town where I operate, also simply 'wagnerwindowcleaning.com' is not available, so I'm looking for the next best option.)
I prefer the second opthion (wagnercleaningbend.com) because it is cleaner and shorter, but I'm worried that not having the phrase "window cleaning" in my URL may negatively affect SEO. How big of an issue is this? Would love to hear som experienced opinions.
Thanks!

Rounded brush - square window?

Can you clean a square window frame with a rounded end brush?

Certainly!

I hear a little concern about the rounded end caps of CONSTRUCTOR BRUSH, and whether they can clean into corners effectively.

See this demo with size 4 bristles (1.5") - erasing the virtual frame without touching the frame.

You can make these bristles anything up to 2.4" long with CONSTRUCTOR BRUSH, at your will...

The end cap bristles can be loaded independent of the main straight bristles (as little as $4.95 to replace them).

The end caps are not straight channels - we kick the bristles out 20 degrees to force them to splay!

https://youtu.be/P1CjmoLu2gE

WHY DID WE CHOOSE ROUND END CAPS?

The ultimate and deciding reason was the integrated rinse bar using RHINO-TUBE to go around the brush.

Fluid Dynamics determines that a rinse bar with end-caps does not deliver equal pressure from all jets - whereas a loop system does - so, to deliver you the ability and efficiency to rinse with the brush on the glass, the compromise was round end caps.

I knew full well from my 4 years using a VIKAN brush, that rounded ends do not make any difference to the ability to clean corners... So it was only a compromise for the 'perception' that round does not reach square.

The true answer to reaching into the corners is in the splay and length of the bristles!
