I just completed my first Angies List "Deal" and it was a lesson. I thought I'd been clear on what we would do and not do for $99 but I guess I wasn't. First one and I got the following negative review. The reply will tell you what I learned from the whole experience. I post so you can avoid this mistake. Customer review (I should mention that the customer had filthy glass and tracks/dog hair/8 sets of wood blinds wouldn't raise so I had to crawl behind them to clean the glass and vac the filthy tracks, and they were as suspicious as anyone could be. Maybe the next customer will be a bit more understanding.)
Review:"They showed up 20 minutes late , the $99 special went to $175 because some windows were larger , read the fine print. I'm sure I could have got the same deal just by looking through the yellow pages. They did a good job but I really wouldn't say I got the deal that I thought I was. Again , read the fine print . Any window that is not a " normal size" you will pay double for ."
My reply:This was my first deal with Angie’s List and I learned a valuable lesson, and the lesson is, I need to discuss the "fine print" with potential customers before we close the deal. I will in the future. My failure to go over the details of "the deal,” like I failed to do with [member name removed], will create misunderstanding. Lesson learned. The numbered content below will be part of every conversation in the future so we all have clarity about what we will do and can't do for $99. Deals have to have limits and the limits must be understood and agreed upon by all.
Dear Customer, 1. Please be aware that you have more than 20 regular sized windows in your home. Most 2 story homes have 40+ windows. 2. I will be providing an estimate to clean all the windows over the 20 you have. 3. You are not required to have the remaining windows cleaned; I'll clean 20 windows (inside and out, track/screens) and then leave, no pressure, no problem. 4. Please be aware of the limits outlined in the offer, and this is key, a "regular sized window" is a single surface of glass approximately 3 x 4. If you have a picture window 6'x8' that will count as 2 regular sized windows. I can't clean 20 large windows for $99 especially if they are on a second or third floor. 5. We will be cleaning the glass, the tracks, the screens for “20 regular sized windows for $99”. This offer is an "Introductory Offer," an opportunity for you to save some money and for me to meet a new potential customer with whom I can have a long term relationship.
