I did some web work for a carpet cleaner friend of mine and worked out a trade. He was willing to come over clean my air vents and dryer vent for the work. He's getting out of the air vent game since it's such a pain but he was willing to do mine as a last hurrah. Pretty cool setup but I can see why he's wanting to drop it from his services. It's a 2 man job and it's just a time suck.
He used an air hose with a ball on the end that blew the air backwards so he'd feed the hose into the duct and then turn on the air and work it back to him and his handheld baffle. He'd close the air when he got close and just vacuum up the rest. Some of the vents were pretty dirty but it was mainly dust and dirt. Hopefully it'll help my allergies/lungs this winter.
HOWEVER, when he did my dryer vent, a mountain of lint came out. Sheesh. I couldn't believe how much just fell out and then he started working the air hose and his industrial carpet cleaning vacuum couldn't keep up with it all and a lot fell out on to the floor.
Man, that's jacked up. I'm not sure how much was left over from the previous owners, but I do know the hucks let off a ton of lint. I recently switched to a "delicate" drying cycle and it minimizes the lint, but dang.
Oh, and the free part ended up costing me about $150. We took down the registers and they were all rusty and old so went out and bought some new ones. Pretty easy to replace them AFTER you dig through lowe's inventory, figure out which register belongs to which box and identify which price goes with the box and then compare against other registers... maybe 30-45 minutes in store if you know what size you need. Why is the 3 way aluminum cheaper than the 2 way steel in certain sizes? Sheesh... Oh, well, wife is happy and they look pretty good.
