SiC Secrets of Stain Removal

As I have already said stain removal is very complex. But there are some basic methods that certain people have found to work exceptionally well in removing scratches and stains from glass. The first step invariably involves the use of Silicon Carbide grinding paper. Otherwise known as SiC. Yeah, SiC is sick. This is what cuts through scratches and stains. When stains don't come out with cerium oxide powders you MUST get SiC. As I have also mentioned diamond will work. But the results can be difficult to manage. Boron carbide is another very effective abrasive. So is boron nitride. We could get VERY technical here with the various properties of abrasive particles. But the bottom line is the quality of the surface created by these different particles is extremely difficult if not impossible to predict. And that surface is critical because the "last grind" must be completely removed with a cerium polish. Remember the amount of total time necessary to do each square foot is going to drive the price of the job. The products used to grind and polish are very important. Not to mention technique. Which includes a process called transitioning. Creating the best flat involves transitioning the grind/polish area into the untouched part of the glass. Just like some people have a difficult time using a squeegee, many people will have a difficult time transitioning with a grinder. Tough to see at three feet. But step back 20 to 50 and it pops right out at ya.

So don't be misled. Unfortunately most of the people who are infusing this industry with knowledge have products and kits to sell. This is NOT where the answers are. For they are hidden. Secrets of the guild you might say. When I finally learned this it totally blew me away.
